A Glossier Review

So if you've been on social media at all, you've probably heard of a skincare and makeup brand, Glossier. Started by Emily Weiss (remember Super Intern on The Hills? Lisa totally invited her instead of Lauren to the Teen Vogue dinner? No? Google it), The Glossier evolved from her blog, Into the Gloss (peep it HERE). It's been one of my very favorite blogs for a while because I love how simple it is. Just conversations with women about their makeup and skincare routines and some reviews, sprinkled in here and there. The makeup and skincare line, like the blog, is simple and no frills. Nothing overly complicated, not an overwhelming amount of products or choices and the aesthetic of the packaging is very french pharmacy.

To be truthful, even after all the positive reviews I've been seeing online, I've been hesitant to buy it. Reason being, I need to try any skincare and makeup before I commit to buying it (although Glossier does allow returns within 30 days which I was pleasantly surprised by.) Even still, I need to feel the product, try it on, smell it, see how my skin reacts to it, etc. Good thing I'm friends with Casey who isn't a total psycho like I am and just goes and buys things like normal people do.

She happened to bring a bunch of her Glossier products to the pool the other day and I'm so glad she did because I bought almost everything she showed me.

Below is a rundown of what I got and why I love it (click the photos to shop) And let's do the skincare first because it's my favorite.

Ok first, the Rich Priming Moisturizer:

For my dry skin, this is perfect. Just like it's name, it's rich and smoothing with a very pleasant and fresh lavender scent. It makes my skin feel plump and super hydrated. TBH, I don't think it does a ton for priming; I still use a primer if I need my makeup to stay on longer than a work day.

The Milky Jelly Cleanser:

Normally I would never spend more than drug store prices on a facial cleanser especially if it claims it has skincare benefits. I just don't believe it's worth it because the ingredients don't stay on your skin for more than the actual length of time it takes to wash your face. HOWEVER. In an effort to try and cut down on at least one step in my skincare process (I mean, it is a *process*, y'all) I tried a sample of this and loved it. It normally takes me 3 steps to wash my face; first I remove my makeup with a micellar cleansing wipe, then I remove my eye makeup with eye makeup remover, then I wash my face. Pain in the ass, right? This cleanser gets my face super clean in one step, no makeup remover necessary. And it didn't dry my skin out, either. I was amazed.

Invisible Shield SPF 35:

Clear SPF 35. Need I say more? Makes my skin look and feel dewy and obviously there's no white cast. (Oh and also, if you think that a higher SPF is better, you're wrong 'cause anything higher than SPF 35 blocks out only like, 2% more of the UVA/UVB rays. ) <--- Huh, look at that. I guess I did have more to say.

Now onto the makeup:

Haloscope Highlighter:

I'm just going to go ahead and say it. I am so over powder highlighters. When you can actually look at someone's skin in person and tell there is sparkly/glittery powder highlighter on there? I'm over it. I think it looks tacky, try-too-hard-y, and too fake. The only time powder highlight actually makes skin look dewy is on instagram where you and I both know, that shit is not real life. So I was actually pretty skeptical about this highlighter. But I tried it on the back of my hand, blended it and it just looked like dewy af skin! No obvious chunks of glitter or sparkle. Just gorgeous looking skin. Count me in.

Cloud Paint (blush) in Haze:

I LOVE this color for my skin tone. Out of the tube, especially for makeup novices, it probably looks scary as shit because it comes out like a deep plum color. But when blended out, it's the perfect, and I mean PERFECT, natural flush because of it's cooler tone. AND to boot! If you clicked on Casey's instagram (linked above to her name), you'll see her complexion is completely different than mine. She's blonde with fair skin, green eyes and freckles. She bought the color Haze and somehow it magically works on both her and my skin tones. So, needless to say, it can work on practically all skin tones. I don't know about the other colors but it's probably safe to say all of them work on most.

A few things that I didn't buy and why (other than my wallet screaming at me):

The balms:

They really are great balms but I have about 123437564 lip products and I just don't need anymore. (The birthday cake flavored one, though. SO GOOD) Also I don't love the tube delivery system because it's not the most sanitary. But the product itself is the balm. (I hate myself.)

The Stretch Concealer:

I don't love concealers in a pot (because again, not sanitary) I prefer them to be in a squeeze tube or in a tube with a doe foot applicator. Also since I can't test it in person, I know I would get so irritated if I had to return it because it didn't match my skin tone.

Generation G Matte Lip:

I'm just not a matte lip girl and for me personally, I find that matte lips age my face. I am very much a gloss/balm girl. Plus I'm actually addicted to glosses/balms because I cannot rub my lips together and not have anything on them. *shivers then dry heaves*

So there you have it. Products I've purchased and loved from Glossier and some that aren't for me. I wish I had a coupon code for you guys but I think your first purchase is 10% off. And the prices (as you might have found from clicking on the pics) aren't crazy expensive.

Have you tried anything from Glossier that you loved and recommend?
