I Love Me a Facial Oil

Let's put it this way: if you're not going to bed with a face so shiny it rivals an actual mirror, you're doing it wrong.
And I know what some of you guys are gonna say; "Omg there's no way I can put OIL on my already insanely oily skin, that's so gross!" Well I'm here to tell you that yes you can and yes you SHOULD. You just have to pick the right oil.
So, as always, everything I do for my skin is to combat wrinkles and aging. Because of this, my nighttime routine incorporates an oil as a last step.
I'm currently using a Kiehl's oil, it's called the Midnight Recovery oil. And here's what it's got in it and what it does (direct from the website):
"Evening primrose oil is an effective ingredient for skin barrier repair and boosts radiance, too; lavender essential oil helps soothe inflamed or irritated skin while helping reduce skin blotchiness; and squalane, a signature Kiehl's ingredient, helps restore skin's natural moisture barrier to keep it extra soft and supple."
And I like it, it's nice. But I don't love the $50 price tag. So next up, I'm gonna get me a bottle of Rosehip Oil, which is amazing because it naturally has Vitamin C and lycopene, which help rejuvenate the skin. Read: makes it look young af.
However, I have dry, sensitive skin so this oil will work for me. But, if you have oily, acne prone skin, you don't want to use this, it will make it worse. So skip ahead, yeah?
Uh hello, $12.95 on amazon for a whopping 4 oz? Yeah, I'll take it.
Another oil I really love for dry, sensitive skin is maracuja oil. Again, it's got a high content of Vitamin C and a shit ton of fatty acids to really plump up your skin. However, do NOT be a sucker and buy Tarte's Maracuja oil that they sell for almost 50 bucks for 1.7 oz. Get on prime and get yourself a 2 oz bottle for $16.95:
For oily and acne prone skin, I would recommend trying jojoba oil (pronounced, huh-HO-ba). It's really light and actually tricks the skin into stopping oil overproduction. So ironically, if you've got oily skin, this will actually help take down the oiliness. SCIENCE 👊🏼 amirite.
Another great oil to use for acne prone skin is grape seed oil. It has linoleic acid, which is great for anti-inflammation and helps with healing.
I love argan oil for my cuticles and elbows. Something that UBER bothers me is crusty, dry ass cuticles. It's gross. So to combat it, I take a couple drops of argan oil on my cuticles before bed and I wake up the next morning and my nails look fresh and clean and not homeless. But ☝🏼 I don't love argan oil for my face. I just don't think it has as many useful properties as the other oils I've mentioned above.
So, oils are great for the skin and you absolutely should be incorporating them into your skincare routine. However, just using an oil as a moisturizer isn't enough, because they don't have any actual water in them. And you need water to hydrate your skin. SO, because of this, I use oils as a last step in my skincare routine.
1. Cleanse and pat skin dry.
2. Pat on an essence (don't know what that is? Read more about it HERE)
3. Apply a serum and wait for it to absorb
4. Apply a moisturizer (oh and I should mention, serum and moisturizer should always be applied in an upward motion. No sagging skin for us.)
5. Apply 3-4 drops of whatever oil you are using into your palm, rub your hands together and PAT the oil into your skin. Don't be rubbing it around all over the place. Pat it in so it almost acts like a seal to all the other skincare you've applied.
6. Pat on an eye cream
And ya done.
Do you use an oil? Are there any others out there that I should be trying?
