The New Ballerina Shoe

So as you know, the ballerina shoe has been around forEVER. I mean Audrey Hepburn made them famous in the '50's and women are still wearing them almost 70 years later. That said, I stopped wearing them years ago because, well...everyone was still wearing them. And don't get me wrong, I totally understand why: they're classic, they're chic, they're comfortable, they go with everything and they're really easy to wear.
But since I stopped wearing them, I've been really struggling to find a shoe that is as easy to wear, that's as chic but that is just something different.
I've invested in a pair of Givenchy loafers and a pair of leather Chanel espadrilles, both of which I love so much and are *sort* of a replacement for ballerinas, but not really.
So, on days where a black flat is all I can manage given all the other shit I need to think about, I picked up a pair of black suede smoking slippers from Aldo. I love the detail of the lip of the shoe (obviously the detail that MAKES it a smoking slipper), the slightly pointed toe, and the mix of leather and suede.
(I've linked this for you because I link everything but honestly, it's a seriously good buy. They were only $50 bucks! And it comes in navy and cream.)
So that said, here are my favorite ways to wear le smoking slipper:
Photo courtsey of Nisolo (those are linked too, they're $158. I love the color)

Olivia Palermo (even though, frankly, I don't love her style. Everyone thinks she's so chic but her style is the opposite of effortless. She wears like, 12 layers in the dead of summer, mixes 8 prints at a time...I'm just not into her style, personally. But her smoking slippers are cute as shit so I wanted to include this photo.)

My girl Poppy, again. PS I have the biggest girl crush on her, I think she is the coolest. (But I'm not really feeling her Mulberry handbag above, TBH)
And of course some really cute ones below:

So a couple things to note:
1. The Charlotte Olympia kitten smoking slippers have been around for a while and are like $500 bucks but I couldn't not include them because *small voice* rawr
2. Those navy blue velvet ones are Jack Rogers and while I am not a Jack Rogers girl at all, I'm impressed with the brand that they made a smoking slipper. Well done.
3. I'm kinda pissed I didn't buy these in velvet.
So what are your thoughts? Are you into this style?
